Vaccinium myrtillus L. populations in the forests of the north-east of Ukraine

Abstract

Forests of the North-East of Ukraine have long been subjected to various anthropogenic impacts: industrial timber harvesting, amelioration, berry picking, mushroom gathering, recreation. In 1999, Desnyansko-Starogutsky National Nature Park with an area of 16 hectares was created in the North-East of Ukraine. Cenosis forming plants of the lower forest layers carry these loads. One of these plants, common in the forests of the North-East of Ukraine, is Vaccinium myrtillus L. It is known that in the forests of Ukrainian Polissya, where litter is accumulated, partial bushes of V. myrtillus completely die, because its roots are located in the litter thickness. When the soil density is more than 60 kg/cm2, the number of partial bushes is reduced by 2.2 times, and the growth of shoots is lowered by a factor equal to 5. Therefore, it is important to study characteristics of V. myrtillus populations in forest areas transferred from the mode of economic use into the conservation one. Data on V. myrtillus population condition in the forests of the North-East of Ukraine will allow to put in perspective (by subsequent phytopopulation monitoring) recovery of the live ground cover and dynamics of population processes after the removal of the main anthropogenic load from the forest communities. Ліси північного сходу України тривалий час зазнавали різноманітного антропогенного впливу: промислової заготівлі деревини, меліорації, заготовки ягід і грибів, рекреаційні навантаження. У 1999 році на північному сході України був організований Національний природний парк «Деснянсько-Старогутський», площею 16 тис. Гектар. У найбільшій мірі такі навантаження сприймали ціноутворюючі рослини нижніх ярусів лісів. Одним з таких рослин, поширених в лісах північного сходу України, є Vaccinium myrtillus L. Відомо, що в лісах Українського Полісся, де накопичується лісова підстилка, парціальні кущі V. myrtillus повністю відмирають, тому що їх кореневища розташовуються саме в товщі підстилки. При збільшенні щільності ґрунту більш за 60 кг / см2. кількість парціальних кущів зменшується в 2,2 рази, а приріст пагонів – в 5. Тому актуальним є вивчення особливостей популяцій V. myrtillus в лісових масивах, переведених з режиму господарського користування в режим заповідності. Дані про стан популяцій V. myrtillus в лісах північного сходу України дозволять об'єктивно оцінювати (наступним фітопопуляціонним моніторингом) процес відновлення живого надґрунтового покриву і динаміку популяційних процесів після зняття основних антропогенних навантажень з лісових масивів.
